Course Schedule Breakdown:
Before The Classroom

eLearning Completion (Approx 4 hours)

Each instructor candidate must pass the C.A.T. eLearning course before they can join the classroom portion of the IDC
-
The primary purpose for each instructor candidate taking the C.A.T. eLearning is to understand the course in its entirety in order to effectively support their future students.

The secondary purpose of the eLearning is for each candidate to refresh their knowledge on high-pressure cylinders, valves, and fill-station systems.

In The Classroom

Day 1 (approx 5 hours)

The C.A.T. Course Practical Portion
-
Instructor candidates will take the C.A.T. course from a certified Cylindex instructor. This allows each candidate to experience the content and pacing of the course. Candidates will also have the opportunity to ask any questions in regards to the course content and teaching methodology.

Day 2 (approx 8 hours)

High-Pressure Cylinder, Valve, and Fill Station System Education
-
This portion of the IDC is led by Don Kinney, the founder of Cylindex. This section of the IDC is a deep dive into the regulations, inspection techniques, safety protocol, and, when applicable, the history of high-pressure cylinders, valves, and fill station systems.

Each candidate will present their teaching assignment to the class, receive feedback, and their presentation will be graded.

Prerequisites
At this time, Cylindex is offering both new instructor certifications and crossover certifications. Upon registering, verifiable experience in all of the following backgrounds is required to be accepted into the Cylindex IDC:

Technical Baclground
-
Multiple years of experience handling, inspecting, and maintaining high-pressure cylinders, valves, and fill station systems.

Educational Baclground
-
An instructor certification from a reputable agency. E.g. SDI/TDI, PADI, SSI, NAUI, IANTD, CMAS, etc. OR a verifiable license, certification, or experience as an educator.

Industry Baclground
-
Relevant experience in SCUBA, EMS, fire suppression, aviation, cryogenics, or another industry Cylindex commonly works with.

- Professional Background
- Demonstrable professionalism through current certifications, adherence to industry standards, and a commitment to maintaining continuing education within their field(s) of expertise.

Crossover Specific Criteria

A certification as a visual inspection instructor from a reputable agency.

Once registered, each candidate will be vetted to ensure they meet the listed requirements. In the event that a candidate is not approved, they will be removed from the IDC, offered a refund, but encouraged to reapply in the future once they have gained the required background experience.
Additional Requirements and Costs

Instruction Tool Kit (Required): All Instructor candidates are required to have access to the official Instruction Tool Kit prior to or during the course. The kit is available for $750 and is an essential component for conducting C.A.T. training, demonstrations, and future instructional delivery.
