Renewal/Crossover Prerequisites

• Must hold a current Cylinder Assessment Technician Certification or equivalent from a reputable agency (SDI/TDI, PSI-PCI, etc.)

This course satisfies the training requirements for new certification, renewal, and crossover in accordance with applicable DOT requirements and OSHA workplace training expectations.

The Cylinder Assessment Technician (CAT) course prepares participants to confidently inspect and evaluate high-pressure cylinders through a combination of interactive eLearning and a 4.5-hour hands-on classroom session designed for dive professionals, public safety teams, military personnel, hydrostatic test facility personnel, and anyone responsible for the inspection and continued serviceability of high-pressure cylinders.

Unlike traditional classroom programs that require a full day of lecture, the CAT course utilizes a modern eLearning-first approach. Much of the regulatory and theory-based content is completed online before attending the in-person session, allowing classroom time to focus on actual cylinder inspection, practical application, instructor interaction, and real-world decision making. The result is a more engaging learning experience that maximizes hands-on instruction while moving lecture-based content to a convenient, self-paced eLearning platform.

Course Topics Include:

• DOT and Transport Canada cylinder regulations

• Steel, aluminum, and composite cylinder construction

• Cylinder markings and specifications

• Visual inspection procedures

• Corrosion identification and evaluation

• Neck thread inspection and cleaning

• Crack identification and rejection criteria

• Valve removal, installation, servicing, and torque considerations

• Inspection documentation and use of the Cylindex tracking app

• Oxygen service awareness and cleanliness

Upon successful completion, participants will earn the Cylinder Assessment Technician (CAT) certification, meeting the training requirements for individuals performing visual inspections of high-pressure cylinders.
